Job Description:

As the Medical Editor for Consumer Health, you will report to the Director of Operations, Consumer Health Division at Ebix, Inc. Your responsibilities will include managing the creation, review, and updating of our evidence-based clinical and consumer health content, alternative medicine content, and dental education content in collaboration with other members of the editorial team in the U.S. and abroad. You will work closely with the Editorial Director to manage accreditation and certification procedures and to ensure that our content is evidence-based and meets the highest editorial standards.

Job Description:

  • Manage the workflow for creating, reviewing, and updating our evidence-based clinical and consumer health content, alternative medicine content, and dental education content.
  • Update, write, and edit medical content including articles and multimedia to be in line with current clinical treatment guidelines, the latest evidence-based medical knowledge, and A.D.A.M. editorial standards.
  • Manage content metadata (Medical Specialties, Medical Codes, and other metadata) in coordination with the editorial team.
  • Co-manage the ongoing accreditation and certification procedures for our content.
  • Work within the in-house Content Management System.
  • Assist the Editorial Director with editorial tasks as assigned.
  • Participate in editorial meetings and project-related meetings.

Desired Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

  • University degree in science (MSc or PhD preferred) or equivalent experience, or experience as a medical professional (physician, nursing, allied health).
  • Experience in medical and/or scientific writing and editing.
  • Ability to explain difficult medical concepts at a lay level (grade 6 to 7 reading level), or willingness to learn.
  • Strong organization and communication skills; diplomacy.
  • Outstanding editing and writing skills.

Assets:

  • Experience in medical communication for patient and/or provider education.
  • Familiarity with medical coding vocabulary.
  • A strong feel for web-based technology including HTML and XML.
  • Knowledge of or interest in the tenets of plain language and writing for a lay audience.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet hard deadlines.
